Our investment philosophies are the beliefs and principles that guide our decision-making process and give our investors a clear understanding of what they can expect when using the LCMS Foundation for investment services.
The LCMS Foundation has developed its investment philosophy in conjunction with our investment advisors. This philosophy is based upon a set of factors which have a widely accepted theoretical basis.
Investment objectives are achieved through prudent risk management.
Some markets are efficient while others are less so or inefficient. Investment strategies will reflect a mix of active and passive Investments.
The most significant impact on investment results. The Foundation will focus the majority of its efforts on the development and maintenance of asset allocation strategies, which will optimally fulfill investment objectives.
It is very difficult to time market cycles. Investment strategies will predominantly focus on processes which do not incorporate market-timing activity.
Capital markets are mean-reverting over long periods. Investment strategies will be long term in nature.
Costs have a meaningful impact on returns. Investment strategies will favor cost effective approaches.
Valuation and analysis based upon fundamentals generally produce superior return/risk results.
The diversity of the Foundation’s clients calls for product offerings that favor consistent performance relative to market benchmarks.
By collectively managing nearly $1 billion in investments, the Foundation receives favorable pricing to keep our expenses low. And as a non-profit, our fees are typically lower than most commercial firms.
The highly professional, low-cost investment option we offer LCMS ministries quite often outperforms funds managed by commercial companies. Click "Learn More," below to review our monthly, quarterly and annual returns.

Our school was blessed with our first gift from a donor who wanted to start an endowed scholarship fund. The LCMS Foundation helped guide us through the process of creating an investment fund that reflected the donor’s wishes and provided an opportunity for future financial growth for our school. We were thankful to work with a trusted partner who understood the importance of incorporating our mission and vision in our financial planning.

Our partnership with the LCMS Foundation has been a tremendous blessing. In just a few years, we’ve identified more than $20 million in gifts planned for St. Peter and other Lutheran ministries.

Working with the LCMS Foundation has not only been stress-free but immensely beneficial for our congregation. We are thankful to have a partner in our investing that cares deeply about the proclamation of the Word of God, the administration of Christ’s sacraments, and the congregations of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. The endowment we have started is meant to support these important things in Montana now and for future generations.
